Cornwall school games logo

I made this logo on photoshop to represent the Cornwall School, I used two of my own photos of dancing - This is one of the catagories in the games. Although I didn't want to make the people recognisable to I highlighted the light snd dark areas using the magic want tool and painted those areas Black and white. This way I had a nice silouette of the figures... I added medals to show that everyones a winner, I grabbed medals from the internet; coloured the in then warped them to fit onto the figures. I also added the cornwall school games background, so that it was clear what it was about.
I wanted to make the colours blocked with few details because I wanted to make the logo easy to the eye this way it would stand out and intrigue whoever it looking at it.
To improve it I would probably add in some text just to give that extra information to anybody that hasn't seen it before and wants to look into it.

Animation

This is my animation I made this with iMovie, it took around 50 images and then put it together. Half way through making it I knocked a mug which has effected the animation.. Next time I would take more time in order to prevent this happening, this would give me a better result

Tea mark making

Tea mark-making;
This is when you spread ink across your piece of paper, you make sure the layer isn't too think, so you can easily use newspaper to wipe across the top to therefore make the lines of the ink thinner.
Then placing a piece of paper over the ink and drawing an image in top of that paper.. The ink should transfer onto the paper, creating the image you drew. We're relating ours to tea

These are the ones I practised on.

Final Evaluation

I began my final piece by deciding on what I was basing the idea on...
I decided I would base it on something everyone would understand and would of had experience with. I used 'fake smiles' which is related to the subject of bullying, and how people feel like they need to make out they're okay when they're not. I felt although I could be imaginative and creative with the concept; With the many ways I could make the audience understand the message,
For examples: I created some pieces to practice with,

I took inspiration from the Joker, (the idea of his cut mouth,) to show that people force themselves to look happy. I used an image of a girl with pain in her eyes, to show that she's not okay.
To create the illusion of the cut mouth, I used another picture of the Joker and cropped around his cuts and added them onto the girl.

For this one I took a girl looking very upset, I wanted to create an affect of someone holding some paper over her, (A bit like a mask,) with a smile drawn onto it. It looks like from other peoples point of view she's fine because of that paper. This one was to prove that even though it looks like she's smiling, it doesn't mean she's happy.

I used Banksy to inspire my Final piece. I liked the idea of it being really dark, and most of the image being black with hardly any colour. This also came in handy because I knew how to use the threshold tool, which means I could easily portray the techniques I needed.

For my Final piece I used a model, (Kendall Jenner,) so I could find images of her two expressions, (one sad and one happy,) this is so I can create the idea that a sad girl is holding a mask with a happier version of herself.
When creating my final piece I used photoshop.
I found the two images of Kendall Jenner;

I adjusted the images and made it threshold to hide and distort the identity. After this I used the magic wand tool and selected all the white area and deleted this. I created a new layer and painted over the white parts, then swapped the layer underneath the original. I used blue - sad colours for the depressing image. And yellow - happy colours for the upbeat image. I then cut out both images and saved them.
For the background of the whole piece I made it a dark grey colour.. Almost black, but I did not want it to blend with the threshold images. I made it gradient and used a lighter grey.
To give the picture a better concept/idea of what it is I found lots of quotes and wrote them in the background in a white/Light grey this is so that they would stand out and give some contrast to the image.
To add in some finer detail I changed the opacity in some areas to give it a shadow effect, this would also give the impression of it being easier to look at - since most of the image is just sharp and heavy.

I'm proud of my Final piece because it's edgy and different. I'm happy with the way I kept changing and improving my ideas as I was creating it. I was willing to take advice and ideas from my friends and teachers, as I felt although if they understood the image then other people would. my target audience would be for everyone, mostly for teenagers as it's quite heavy stuff, although this could happen to everyone. I feel like to improve it could of maybe changed the background to a lighter colour - This is because I would of liked the model to stand out more and the mask. I could of maybe added a website to go to or maybe even a telephone number; then maybe the message would be more noticeable, also people may feel like they have somewhere to go/someone to talk to.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is a famous artist who is known for his pop art, we have been working in photoshop to create our own version of his work by choosing an 'Icon' of our choice.
Andy Warhol was trained as a commercial artist, but is best known for founding the pop art movement.

He developed the technique of projecting photographic images to a silk screen, a process that enabled him to produce repetitive patterns within the same piece relatively quickly.

We made our own version in photoshop. We first found the photo we wanted and opened it in photoshop.. This is where we adjusted the image so that we added the threshold to make it black and white.. We then used the magic wand tool and this is where it highlighted all of the white areas. I deleted this so I am left with the black. I created a new layer and added the colours wanted into different parts on that layer. I then swapped the layers so that the black was on top of the colour. I created a new document where I copied and pasted the image 4 times and then on each layer changed the enhancement&colour hue. I then cropped it and merged all the images together.

Evaluation

Firstly I drew the image I wanted to make my stencil - I wanted it to relate to my subject with was to stop the life penalty. So my image is a fist with a Gavel which is dripping off blood. Which should show that the government is killing people.
To make my stencil I used a sheet of plastic and used a black pen to out line my image. Bearing in mind that I needed to cut out certain parts to make the image recognisable. After this is cut out those parts, luckily it was still in one piece.
To test whether it was practical I used a white piece of A3 paper and smudged back paint over it... It worked.
After i knew this I started used powder paint to give a tie-dye affect for the background, I liked it when the colours were light so that the stencil really stood out.
I did this a few times and even printed out some images of blank walls just to see if it looked all right.
After I finished all of that, I moved onto photoshopping my stencil image onto a wall. I did this by using a my blank background image and added that onto the program. i highlighted the black areas by using the quick selection tool. i found an image of google and added the selected areas onto that layer. Luckily it worked and all of my stencil had gone through.
I needed to make it realistic so I edited it and changed the perspective making it look tilted so it gave an appearance that it was against the wall!
I then changed the stencil layers opacity, so it looked although the bricks came through the layer. this made it look realistic.

Peer Assessment

PEER ASSESSMENT

I really like the way your design stands out because it is bold and black.
I would grade you a B\A because you still need to do more work but other than that I really like your photo shop design.

Peer Assessment

Peer Assessment: From Amber Kitt

I think that your work is a grade B/A so distinction. Mostly because of the detail and shading you used in your drawing, but to stay at the grade A/A* you  need to make sure you add a second layer so its easier to cut our your stencil.

Next time try not to take so much time in detail although it is very very nice, so just make the basic outline for a stencil next time.

Banksy Research

This first picture I have chosen because it shows a young boy with a phone, and is crying because he has no new comments, likes and followers.  And it just shows how messed up society are because all they care about is becoming known and famous throughout the media. It is a young boy and they shouldn't be all over the internet at that age, they should be playing outside, going to the park and etc. I think Banksy wants us to look at this and realise that this is wrong and children shouldn't be crying over how people on social media aren't noticing them, but at things that have happened in REAL LIFE, and REAL FRIENDS.

This second picture I have chosen shows two people that are obviously fighting over something they may be protesting about.. As you can see on the billboards they are holding, one person want peace, and one wants love. This is a bit weird looking at it because it shows someone who is 'protesting for 'peace' fighting. Which reminds me of those who are really into peace so much they would start a war about it... Doesn't make sense?  Of course art is all about how people interpret things differently.  The way I see it is the person holding a love sign could be homosexual, which we all know many people can be very against. So the person that could be representing peace and comes across all innocent could really be hurting/bullying the homosexual.

The third image is of a girl that seems to be cuddling a bomb? The bomb reminds me of a teddy the way she is holding and supporting it. This could be symbolising how two things that shouldn't be together, (young girl and the bomb,) are now together; this graffiti image is obviously making fun of war. It is going into the devastating side of war and how it affects the families by losing loved one! I like this piece because there could be any different messages involved within the graffiti, depending on how someone interprets it.

Propaganda

How is colour used when designers are developing concepts for public information?

When designers are creating their images they decide what is the colour they are going to use.. Normally it's involved/related with the logo/theme colour for the company. Or they may be trying to relate to the audience with a certain emotion. Even try to express a certain colour to really show what the photographer is trying to show! A good idea is too create a poster and place it in an area where there are boring black and white posters; this way the poster will stand out.

Why can colour be so powerful to hook an audience or deliver a message to the viewer?

People become attracted and look at the easiest thing for the eye to look at, so there for making it simple and use one colour will be the most spotted thing in the room. colour can be powerful to the audience; if you add every single colour possible to fit onto one poster, then it may become off putting!

Red

The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear heavier. Since it is an extreme color, red clothing might not help people in negotiations or confrontations. Red cars are popular targets for thieves. In decorating, red is usually used as an accent. Decorators say that red furniture should be perfect since it will attract attention.
The most romantic color, pink, is more tranquilizing. Sports teams sometimes paint the locker rooms used by opposing teams bright pink so their opponents will lose energy.

Blue

The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can also be cold and depressing. Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.

Yellow

Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an optimistic color, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused. Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds metabolism.

How do your propaganda examples communicate messages through the use of colour?

From the colours above and the primary colours, it shows different kind of emotion, and depending on the image, it really relates to the audience without even saying any words. For example, the rose is red and the rest of the picture is in black and white.. this really makes you notice the colour and wonder about the message that the photographer is trying to tell you; Whether there's a story behind the image? Or the really appreciate what a beautiful image it is.

Homework

Homework~

Frog; a flashmob is when a group of people suddenly do something in a public space with out warning! For example I did one In Truro in St Austell with my dance company... This Truro one is not exactly a flash mob, but you should get the idea; http://youtu.be/Gfra2U2R9mo
People normally form a group and slowly more and more people join in. They do this for awareness, artistic expression or entertainment.
A good way to express a health issue campaign was maybe to perform a lyrical dance, telling a story instead of just a routine.

1ST
The first campaign I read and found was; Drink driving: THINK!: Road safety.
I liked this campaign because even though there's not a lot of pictures or colour, I just like the way it's layed out. It's easy to read as it's bullet pointed, it fist states 'The law' and then 'The consequences' which makes you question what you know and persuades you to read on. What I don't like about the campaign is the fact that there aren't any pictures, just one video. If you really want to capture somebody's attention add in a catchy slogan in colour- Or add in some thoughtful images that would
intrigue the reader.

2ND
The second campaign I found was from NHS and is; Smokefree.
I really liked the first page as it was very colourful and seemed like a very positive site. I had many different options to click on like; Quit now, which is where you add in your email ect. so you can start quitting with support! The second was, Why Quit? Giving the reasons of why you should quit. Then theres, Expert support, which gives you information about the types of support. Success stories, which I thought was really positive; knowing that it's achievable. The only thing id improve is maybe change up the logo, or have a catchy slogan.

3RD
I have found a sexual health campaign website called; Respect yourself which I though was a great title, I also like the colourful logo in it. I like this website because it gives you lots of different information about different contraception, STI attitudes towards sex ect. I thought it was a good website that relates to teenagers about doing the right thing and making sure they think about what they're doing instead of throwing your life away by doing the wrong things! I think this website has almost everything it needs and has most questions people ask; It even has a blog, and a bar for parents.

Peer Assessment

Peer review.. Week1&Week2
Week One
Grade B/ You have included three images from all the different campaigns you have found, and you have included a lot of information which you have found from the internet to back up your evidence.

Week Two
Grade A/ You have included images and included the age groups each would be for people who are viewing it. You have found weblink' on the internet as well which i think is very good. But maybe next time you could find other websites that promote this as well.

Smoking Campaign

All these smoking campaigns all target both adults and children.. this is because obviously children should not be the ones that are targeted FOR smoking although they are a very big part of it and can be badly affected. This is normally when a child's worried about a parent or friend, and need help to try and stop them. but also this will also capture adults in the fact that there are children involved in the campaigns and Parents/adults are normally more hooked when they see them as they are more venerable.
I like the ones with a sad story as they stick in your mind so that you don't forget them which will make people think twice about stopping and the people they're affecting around them. This is also easier to advertise I guess, like on posters having an image of the story will attract more people to read on.

Health campaign mind map;
- A catchy slogan
- Hook the reader/watcher with an emotional or shocking image
- Have a story behind the image or even a video
- Add a health risk so the reader/watcher thinks twice

Campaign ideas..
My own campaign could be about a child telling her mother that she wants to be just like her. This is quite a serious campaign as the daughter is obviously telling her mum she wants to smoke as well, just because she is. And the daughter wouldn't know any better, as because her mum is doing it she wouldn't think twice about the risks or that it's bad to do - As she maybe very young/too young to understand. There doesn't have to be a slogan in this campaign as it is quite deep anyway so there could just be short title like, 'Wanna be like you.'

This video would hook women as its about looks, (which women are normally interested in this,) it's good because it shows women what can happen to your appearance if you carry on smoking ect. like you can experience;
-Acne
-Wrinkles
-Greasy hair
-Yellow fingers
-Face Drooping
-Older looking face
-Wrinkly/greasy skin

Public Information Unit 2

Campaign; NHS smoke free every ciggartte harms your baby:

I have chosen this campaign because the image is of a pregnant women in black and white and is also showing her smoking... Which from anyone's point of you can see that it doesn't look like the mother cares about her child. This campaign seems to be quite persuasive and probably makes the mother feel guilty about the situation. I don't like this campaign because it dosnt show what it's actually doing to the baby inside of the mother.

The next campaign I have chosen is the NHS MMR vaccination:

I chose this because the campaign is very persuasive, it is a serious argument showing that there have been out breaks of measles ect. All over the uk.. It also exaggerates when they use the wording, making it more intriguing which is a good way to hook the reader. I don't like this campaign because I couldn't find an interesting poster about it so that I could be advertised everywhere.

NHS campaign with Change4Life:

I like this campaign because of the way their adverts are colourful - which captures the watchers/readers, which also helps, as the advert talks about what the food you eat does to you and if you don't change something about it you may not live as long and you might be given health risks. this is probably the best/ most helpful and informative campaign of the list.
